2. What Data We Collect and Why

2.1 Server Logs (Cloudflare Pages)

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When you visit any page, Cloudflare automatically records standard server log data, which may include your IP address, date and time of visit, requested URL, browser type and version, operating system, and referring URL.

This data is processed by Cloudflare as a data processor acting on our behalf. We do not have direct access to individual log entries.

Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest in the secure and stable operation of the website.

Retention: Cloudflare’s standard log retention applies. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.

2.2 Analytics — PostHog

With your consent, we use PostHog to understand how people use this site. PostHog collects:

  • Pages you visit and the order you visit them
  • How long you spend on each page
  • Interaction events: viewing school profiles, saving/removing schools, downloading calendar files, opening events in Google Calendar, clicking registration links, switching view modes, downloading check reminders
  • Browser type, operating system, screen resolution
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address (country/city level)
  • A randomly assigned anonymous session identifier stored in a cookie

PostHog does not collect your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you.

Your data is stored on PostHog’s EU cloud infrastructure (eu.i.posthog.com), with servers located within the European Union.

Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) GDPR — your consent, given via the cookie banner on your first visit.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking “Cookie settings” in the footer. See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.

2.3 Your Shortlist (localStorage)

When you save schools to your shortlist, that list is stored entirely within your own browser using localStorage — a standard browser feature. This data never leaves your device, is never transmitted to our servers, and is not accessible to us. It contains only school identifiers, not personal information.

Legal basis: Strictly necessary functional storage — no consent required.

3. Cookies

We use cookies only if you consent to analytics. The cookie banner is shown on your first visit. Declining means no PostHog cookies are set; all features including the shortlist continue to work normally.
